Neena Gupta and Amitabh Bachchan have appeared in many movies together, and were last seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s
Uunchai
(2002). While appearing on a special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Neena had revealed that for one of the scenes in the film, the actors had to consume paan for the same, and since Big B does not eat paan, he ended up with a sore throat! She said, “For a scene in the film, we had to eat a paan (betel leaf). Amit ji doesn’t eat paan. We all took one bite, but he had the whole paan. Inka hua galaa kharaab kyunki yeh khaate hi nahi (he developed a sore throat because he doesn’t eat paan). Do you remember this incident?”
While on the actress, Neena Gupta recently opened up about her experience auditioning for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, a Hollywood blockbuster released in 2020.
During a chat with Kareena Kapoor Khan on the show What Women Want, Neena revealed that she flew all the way to Los Angeles for her audition but ultimately didn’t land the role. Interestingly, Dimple Kapadia, who eventually bagged the part, didn’t even travel to LA for her selection.
Neena recalled, “I auditioned in Los Angeles after sending a taped audition. Out of five shortlisted ladies, Dimple got the role. She didn’t even go to LA.” She humorously added, “I fail in auditions. If there’s no audition, I ace it, but I always get rejected during auditions. It’s the director’s vision, and you can’t change it.”
Dimple Kapadia, who portrayed Priya, the enigmatic wife of a Mumbai arms dealer, has previously spoken about how she got the role. Initially thinking the call was a prank, she reluctantly auditioned and met Nolan in Mumbai. Reflecting on her experience, Dimple said, “I went just to get a picture with him, but when I got the part, I was so nervous.”
Christopher Nolan praised Dimple for her charisma, poise, and talent, calling her performance exactly what he envisioned for the character. Tenet, which marked Dimple’s Hollywood debut, received positive reviews for her portrayal.
Dimple’s success in Tenet added another feather to her cap, with subsequent roles in Pathaan and ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva.’
