Diwali was a grand affair for Sanjana Sanghi, who celebrated at her home in Delhi after eight years. Now, she’s happy to be celebrating Bhai Dooj with her brother,

. “Sumer moved to the US almost eight years ago, and around the same time I moved to Mumbai. After that, both of us were rarely at home together for Bhai Dooj,” says Sanjana, while Sumer adds, “We started celebrations on Chhoti Diwali as it was also our mom’s birthday.”

‘We surprise each other with sweet gestures on Bhai Dooj’
For both Sumer and Sanjana, this Bhai Dooj celebration will be just like childhood days. “On Bhai Dooj, we would look forward to meeting our cousins at our nani’s house; she would make the yummiest Gujarati feast. The festival has always been about fun celebrations with cousins and spending time together. We try to surprise each other with some sweet gestures,” says Sanjana.

She adds, “When you and your sibling stop living together you realise how much you miss them, especially if you are the younger one like me. There’s so much you want to tell your elder sibling and seek their guidance.”

‘We have one annual, dramatic fight’
After Sumer moved to the US, both of them try to spend time together whenever they can. “We try to meet each other often. I visited New York thrice this year, and whenever he is here, I come and stay for an extra day. He visits me in Mumbai and attends my film premieres. We make sure that we are there for each other for the big events in our lives,” says Sanjana. Sumer shares that the two have been each other’s secret keepers for long. “We have been each other’s secret keepers, and we’ve done a good job of it,” says Sumer, and Sanjana adds, “But we also fight – we have one annual, dramatic fight that lasts for a day if it’s intense!”
