Catch players with the most international runs in 2024.
The year 2024 witnessed a flurry of outstanding batting performances across formats, but none stood out quite like Yashasvi Jaiswal’s meteoric rise. The young Indian batter emerged as one of the premier performers, putting forward his prowess across all formats, particularly in Test cricket, while also leaving a mark in T20Is. India won’t have to scratch heads when Rohit Sharma hangs up his boots, knowing Jaiswal is there. Apart from him, the duo of Joe Root and Harry Brook broke all the records as well. As for Rohit and Virat Kohli, the year was a difficult one, especially for Kohli, who recorded his career’s worst average. Guess who was the player with most runs in 2024? It was Kusal Mendis!
Most Runs in 2024: Top 3 batters
Kusal Mendis (SL): 1860 runs at 37.20
Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis was the standout performer in 2024, amassing 1,860 runs across formats. It could be a bit shocking for many, given he scored just two centuries in the year. But his consistency in ODIs and T20Is made him a pivotal figure for Sri Lanka. Mendis struck two centuries but 11 half-centuries, maintaining a solid average of 37.20 while playing 48 matches. Being a keeper-batter and ending up at the top of this list is a stupendous feat nonetheless.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (IND): 1771 runs at 52.08
The coming of age of Yashasvi Jaiswal! Back in 2023, he was a backup opener but now he is just undroppable. 1478 of his 1771 international runs came just in Test cricket, signalling he has that vigour in him. When no player touched the 500-run mark, Jaiswal hammered 712 runs in the series against England, notching up two double hundreds. Then, on his first-ever Australian tour, Jaiswal scored a scintillating ton in Perth. He was also India’s best batter in the recent hard-fought loss in Melbourne.
Pathum Nissanka (SL): 1696 runs at 44.63
Another Sri Lankan on the list! Unlike Mendis, Nissanka is touted to be the best young talent, who has just smoked 1696 at 44.63. Incredibly, Nissanka started 2024 with the bestest way possible—hammering 210* runs against Afghanistan. His strike rate of 106.00 was superb, seeing him hammer 4 centuries and 9 fifties.
