A Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) derailed at Villupuram yard in the early hours of Tuesday (January 14, 2025). No injuries were reported in the incident involving a bogie carrying a few passengers who were on board, according to a Railway official.

According to an official release, the MEMU rake was in shunting for Train no. 66063 when a wheel of the train derailed at the Villupuram yard.

The incident occurred at around 5.32 a.m.

A few passengers were on board during the shunting on the MEMU rake. However, no injury was reported.

Passengers waiting for this train service were accommodated in Train no. 11005 Dadar-Puducherry Express which was halted at all stations enroute to Puducherry to ensure their travel without further delay.

The main line remained clear, and hence there was no disruption to traffic on the main line. However, movement towards Puducherry was briefly affected due to the derailment. The entire line has been cleared for traffic at 8.40 a.m. and normal train services have resumed.
