Mayank Yadav, the young tearaway pacer who made waves in the Indian Premier League this season, is unlikely to play a further role in IPL 2024, Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer has said.
The young Mayank Yadav, who was consistently crossing speeds of 150kph in his early games for LSG this season, was so impressive that at one point being spoken about as a player India could take a punt on for the T20 World Cup. But injury sidelined him. He suffered a lower abdominal tear which will possibly brings down the curtains on his IPL 2024 season.
“We’ll be praying that he can play, hopefully, in the play-offs, but I am a realist as well. It’ll probably be difficult for him to get up for the back-end of the tournament,” Langer was quoted as saying by PTI.
Mayank Yadav played in four IPL matches this season claiming seven wickets.
But he had a couple of setbacks as well. He first got injured against the Gujarat Titans. needing to leave the field with a side strain after bowling one over. He returned to action against Mumbai Indians after a month-long rehabilitation process. But once again, ended the game prematurely — this time after bowling 3.1 overs.
PTI quoted Langer as saying that Mayank had sustained a tear at the same area where he was injured earlier.
“He’s (Mayank) had a scan. He’s got a small tear in a similar area to where his last one (injury) was. So, it’s very unfortunate. We saw the impact he had when he came back into the game,” he said before revealing that Mayank Yadav had spoken to Jasprit Bumrah recently.
“There will always be a lot of discussion about fast bowlers, and I know he spoke to (Jasprit) Bumrah after the game and he reassured him that if he’s going to be a fast bowler, a part of his journey as a young fast bowler, he’s going to get injuries. So, in my experience, every young fast bowler, probably until they get to 25 or 26, is going to experience different injuries. It’s the most unfortunate. He’s got huge potential,” he said.
