Ruud van Nistelrooy whose term as Manchester United interim manager ended on Sunday after the team thrashed Leicester City 3-0 in the Premier League, said that the experience was a special one.

“It was a beautiful moment. To come back to the club and I’ve started working, and then doing the four games, all at home, getting some good results and some good goals. To close it down with this, it’s special. My dad was here, my son. So it was a fantastic moment, he said according to a post by United.

However, the club on Monday decided to part ways with the Dutchman as new coach Ruben Amorim takes charge.

Ruud van Nistelrooy and three first-team coaches have departed the club with our best wishes for the future.

“Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach. Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford”.

Under Nistelrooy, United scored 11 goals in four games and have won 3 out of his 4 matches in charge. But they are still placed 13th in the league after 11 matches, and have scored only 12 goals in the Premier League so far.

United now look to Amorim to continue the momentum van Nistelrooy has built and lead the club into a bright future.

“I feel ready for the new challenge,” Amorim was quoted as saying by Reuters after overseeing his final match with Sporting in a 4-2 win over Braga on Sunday.

Festive offer

“I’m not naive, I know it’s going to be very different, very difficult. I’m at peace now, I can focus on my new job and I’m looking forward to starting tomorrow,” he added.

The Portuguese coach’s impressive resume was due to his work with Sporting, and he was sought after throughout Europe and especially in England. After great success with Sporting, he will start out at Old Trafford this week, and his work to recover the most successful club in England is cut out for him.
