Madhya Pradesh: Sand mafia mows down an ASI under tractor in Shahdol

mowed down an assistant sub-inspector of police in

Shahdol

district. The deceased has been identified as assistant sub-inspector Mahendra Bagri, 37, resident of Singhpur in Satna who was posted at Beohari police station in Shahdol district.

Bagri had gone to arrest an accused with his two colleagues at Badoli village. At around 11.45 pm, they saw a tractor loaded with sand coming towards them, near Khadoli village.

He stepped down of his vehicle and asked the tractor trolley driver to stop, but instead the drived mowed him down to death.
The driver identified as Raj Rawat, 19 was later arrested by the other policemen along with Ashutosh Singh who is the son of tractor owner.
Senior police officials have announced a reward of Rs 30,000 on the arrest of the owner of the tractor.

When contacted, SP Shahdol, Kumar Prateek said, “The accused were bringing illegally mined sand from shores of Samdhin river situated at a distance of around 8 kilometers from the spot where the incident took place. Deceased officer had gone for implementing a permanent arrest warrant with his colleagues, but when they saw the tractor trolley coming, they tried to stop it. Deceased stepped down and asked the driver of the tractor to stop but instead of stopping he ran over him. Both the accused who were present there were arrested by other colleagues, search is on for the owner of the tractor”.

This is the second such incident within six months in the same district where two government employees have been killed by sand mafia. “We quizzed the driver of the tractor who is only 19 years old, he said that he got scared and ran over the officer”, Prateek told TOI.
Earlier on November 25, a patwari was mowed down and run over under a tractor by the sand mining mafia at Gopalpur village under Deolond police station of Shahdol district. Deceased was identified as Prashann Singh, 40, who was posted as a patwari in Beohari revenue division.
