Madhuri Dixit on turning down Hollywood due to pregnancy, sons' reaction to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3: 'I find it odd to make them watch my movies'

Madhuri Dixit, one of Bollywood’s most iconic stars, married Dr.

Shriram Nene

, a cardiovascular surgeon from California, in 1999 at the height of her career. After her marriage, she moved to Colorado and focused on her family life, appearing in fewer films during that decade. Madhuri became a mother to two sons, Arin and Ryan, and returned to India in 2011. During a recent interview, she reflected on her time in the U.S. and revealed why she turned down offers from Hollywood.
“Well, there were one or two opportunities that came my way, but I was pregnant with my second child at that time. I didn’t want to work when I was pregnant. That’s why I had said no,” Madhuri explained. While many of her Bollywood peers, such as Aishwarya Rai, Irrfan, and Anil Kapoor, explored Hollywood during that period, Madhuri said she didn’t actively pursue a career in the West. “I was so involved in making a family and living that life, which was also a part of my dreams. I didn’t really think about doing a Hollywood film. I’m happy doing what I’m doing here. And Indian films, anyway, are watched all over the world,” she told News 18.

Now back in India, Madhuri and Dr. Nene’s sons, Arin and Ryan, are studying in the U.S. She recently shared how thrilled she was when her sons watched

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3

in a theater with their friends. “They don’t usually sit and watch my films (laughs). But they did watch Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. My son called me and said that they found the film very funny and really enjoyed it. They loved me as a ghost. So, for this film, I’ve got their approval,” Madhuri shared.

However, Madhuri added that she doesn’t push her sons to watch her movies and prefers letting them discover her work on their own. “They’re curious. Once in a while, they watch some scenes and tell me, ‘When did you do this movie?’ They recently watched the video of K Sera Sera and told me I was really cool in it. But I find it odd to make them sit and watch my movies. I’ll let them discover all that with their friends,” she said with a smile.
