Luis Suarez retirement to play his last match on Friday as he retires as highest goal scorer for Uruguay with 69 goals to his name!
Ace striker Luis Suarez has decided to hang up his boots from international football at an age of 37 years. Later this week when Uruguay take on Paraguay in the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Suarez will don his country’s jersey for one last time before bidding adieu to international football.
Luis Suarez will call it ends to his international career as the highest ever goal scorer for his country. And in a befitting way to end his trade, he will play the last game for La Celeste at the iconic Estadio Centenario which was the home of Uruguay in the inaugural version of FIFA World Cup back in 1930.

El Pistolero calls it ends!
“I’ve been thinking about this and analyzing this. I believe this is the right time. I want to be relaxed when I play my last game with the national team. I’ll be just as excited to play as I was in 2007 when I played for my national team for the first time. That 19-year old kid is now a veteran player, an older player — however you want to call it — with an incredible history with the national team will give his life for the team on Friday,” said Luis Suarez with tears in his eyes.
It has been a great outing for Luis Suarez for his country. Nicknamed as ‘El Pistolero’ which referes to his prolific finishing and passing style, Suarez remains the highest goal scorer for his country. With an international career spanning over 14 years, with 142 international caps and 69 goals, it is well deserved end for Suarez.
His international outing came in Copa America 2024 where his injury time and successful conversation from penalty in the shootout helped Uruguay finish 3rd in the tournament.
“We did go through difficult moments. There were many. Personally, it was worse for me after my massive mistake in 2014. But there’s nothing that I would reproach,” said Suarez reflecting back on his memories.
