Actor-model Lin Laishram has courageously spoken out about the
body shaming
she has faced on
social media
, an experience that left her both shocked and saddened. Known for her striking presence and talent, Laishram recently took to Instagram to share her distress over the relentless comments she receives about her body, particularly the surprising number of comments from
women
.
This issue, she revealed, has been especially painful due to her long struggle with body dysmorphia.
In a candid conversation with Hindustan Times, Laishram explained that body shaming from online trolls has been a constant issue throughout her career. However, the volume of negative comments she receives from women has been particularly jarring. “It was shocking to see the number of comments from women telling me to lose weight,” she said. She recounted a particularly hurtful experience at a celebrity event earlier this year, where a seasoned actor bluntly asked her, “Why don’t you work out?”

Laishram expressed her dismay at the persistence of such advice, especially from those who might be expected to understand the pressures of being in the public eye. “Over the years, I’ve noticed that the majority of such comments come from women,” she noted, highlighting the often-overlooked fact that body shaming can come from any quarter, not just men.
Reflecting on her journey, Laishram shared that she has dealt with body dysmorphia for a long time, a condition that distorts one’s perception of their own body. Despite these challenges, she remains committed to staying true to herself. “I’ve worked out all my life; I was a sportsperson. When you get comments like that… it’s unnecessary pressure on somebody. It’s none of your business to tell someone to exercise, or troll or make fun of how they look,” she said, calling out the insensitivity behind such remarks.
Meanwhile, in her Instagram story, she boldly stated, “I can still rock a ramp or a photoshoot, even if I’m overweight, and I refuse to conform to your narrow expectations.”
