PANAJI: A 35-year-old tourist from Kerala died in a lightning strike at Goa’s Miramar beach on Tuesday, police said on Thursday.
While Akhil Vijayan, his wife, friends, and children were scurrying back to their car from Miramar beach to escape the rain, lightning struck, leaving Vijayan, his wife, and a male friend unconscious. Vijayan’s wife and his friend regained consciousness soon, police said.
They suspected Vijayan had a heart attack and admitted him to GMC hospital.
The postmortem attributed the Ernakulam resident’s death to “electrocution and blast injuries consistent with lightning strike”, police said.
