MPs should differentiate between protesting on road and in Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said in an interview to ET:
On Budget session
MPs come from different political parties, with different ideologies, so there would be agreements and disagreements, but debate in Parliament should be held in a positive manner, keeping national interest in mind. Every MP has a right to express himself or herself but there should be a difference between protesting on the road and in Parliament. People of the country also expect this from their MPs and discussion should be held for making India a developed nation.
On House with Bigger Opposition
I don’t see this as a challenge but an opportunity to raise the level of debate. A strong Opposition can put forth its view strongly. But on issues of national interest, the entire House should unanimously take the decision.
On Amritpal, Engineer Rashid
People have elected them. They were administered the oath as per the rules and procedures and as per the court orders.
On MPs’ Claims in Parliament
There is a set of rules and procedures; there are provisions of the Constitution. It is expected that MPs will follow these rules and procedures.

The election for Lok Sabha Speaker’s post shows there is a vibrant democracy in the country, and political parties will hold discussions for the Deputy Speaker’s post.
On Second consecutive term
After a long time someone has been appointed Lok Sabha Speaker for the second time. I am grateful to the people of Kota and Bundi for electing me and also Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of other parties for reposing faith in me. From my previous experience and with cooperation from all MPs, I would try to raise the level of debate so that Parliament sets the highest benchmarks of debate and proceedings which send a message across the globe from the world’s largest democracy. Churning of different viewpoints and agreements-disagreements are good for democracy.
On vision for his Constituency
There is huge scope for developing agriculture-based industries as there is enough water available in this region for irrigation. I also aim to develop a special tourism circuit for Kota-Bundi.
