Krishna Janmashtami 2024 bank holiday: Starting from Saturday, August 24, 2024, banks in several states will remain closed for three consecutive days. On Monday, August 26, some states will observe a bank holiday in celebration of Krishna Janmashtami. As a result, bank customers should check if their residing state has a holiday.
Krishna Janmashtami, often referred to as Krishnashtami, Janmashtami, or Gokulashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that marks the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu.

On Saturday, August 24, banks across all states will be closed as it is the fourth Saturday of the month. The RBI rules dictate that banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, as well as on Sundays, national, and regional holidays.
Banks will also be closed on Sunday, August 25.

On Monday, August 26, banks in certain states will be closed due to the celebration of Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/Krishna Jayanthi, which falls after the fourth Saturday and Sunday.
The states that will see a long weekend include Gujarat, Orissa, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh state, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar.

However, there will be no long weekend in Tripura, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, New Delhi, and Goa, according to an ET report quoting the RBI bank holidays list.

Throughout August, banks will be closed on various occasions, including Ker Puja, Tendong Lho Rum Faat, Patriot’s Day, Independence Day/Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi), Raksha Bandhan/Jhulana Purnima/Birthday of Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi, and Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/Krishna Jayanthi, depending on the state.
