Delhi Capital will be the fifth franchise that KL Rahul represents since he made his IPL debut in 2014.
KL Rahul is excited to start his new Indian Premier League (IPL) journey with the Delhi Capitals (DC). Bought by the franchise for Rs 14 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, the wicketkeeper batter, who split with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on bad terms, wants to win it all and show everyone that he’s still one of the top stars in T20 cricket.
Lucknow to Delhi, comes KL Rahul
“Hey guys, I’m super happy to join the Delhi Capitals. A new journey begins for me with the Delhi Capitals, and I’m super excited. The squad looks really good. Can’t wait for the season to begin and come to Delhi and play at the Kotla (Arun Jaitley Stadium). So, see you guys there,” Rahul said in a video posted by the Capitals on their social media.
Right now, it’s uncertain whether Rahul will lead DC. The batter from Bengaluru has led two franchises, Punjab Kings (2020-21) and LSG (2022-24). If he’s not named skipper, it’ll be the first time in five years that he plays in a team that he won’t be leading. It happened at LSG, but because his fitness was an issue.
Apart from Rahul, there is another captaincy candidate at DC, Axar Patel. The all-rounder has been with the franchise since 2019 and has been their best player over the last couple of seasons. Parth Jindal, co-owner of the franchise, didn’t make it clear which star will lead the team in IPL 2025.
“We have a very young batting lineup. Both KL and Axar are going to lead them and guide them. KL’s batting and experience will be a vital cog in the wheel,” Jindal had said in Jeddah. In the coming months, we can expect DC to make it official who’ll lead the side.
