KKR fans eagerly await the team’s safe return to Kolkata and their upcoming home match against the Mumbai Indians on May 11th.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) encountered unexpected travel delays on Monday night while attempting to return to Kolkata from their previous Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) match in Lucknow. Their chartered flight, originally scheduled to land in Kolkata, was diverted twice due to bad weather.

The KKR franchise officially announced the first diversion on Monday evening, stating that their flight was redirected to Guwahati due to unfavourable weather conditions in Kolkata. However, a glimmer of hope emerged when they received clearance to resume their journey back to Kolkata.

Unfortunately, their hopes were short-lived. Kolkata Knight Riders tweeted another update shortly after 1:20 am, revealing that another landing attempt in Kolkata had failed, forcing the flight to divert once more, this time to Varanasi.

Overnight stay in Varanasi confirmed: IPL 2024

With the late hour and persistent bad weather, KKR confirmed at 3:00 am that the team would be checking into a Varanasi hotel for the night. A return flight to Kolkata is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

KKR maintains IPL 2024 top spot

Despite the travel disruptions, the KKR team remains in high spirits. Their previous match in Lucknow concluded with a convincing 98-run victory against the Lucknow Super Giants, solidifying their position at the top of the IPL 2024 table.

KKR fans eagerly await the team’s safe return to Kolkata and their upcoming home match against the Mumbai Indians on May 11th.
