BENGALURU: The
special court
for elected representatives on Saturday refused to grant interim
anticipatory bail
to JD(S) leader and Holenarasipura MLA
HD Revanna
.
This is in connection with a kidnap case registered by the KR Nagar police in Mysuru, invoking offences of abduction, illegal confinement etc.
Special Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat, who heard the matter for about two hours, rejected the interlocutory application (IA) filed in this regard along with the anticipatory bail petition filed by HD Revanna.
The hearing on the main petition however ,has been adjourned to May 6.
Earlier, senior advocate Murthy D Naik, appearing for HD Revanna submitted that non bailable offences have been invoked intentionally, just to deny the benefit of anticipatory bail to the petitioner.
He submitted that the entire investigation is being dictated by both the chief minister and deputy chief minister and added that it is evident from the statement made deputy chief minister that Revanna should be kept in custody for two months and interrogated.
According to Naik, Prajwal Revanna is not an accused in this case, the
SIT
is bent upon sensationalizing the case.
He claimed except the references in the statement of accused No. 2 (Sathish Babu) that he had been sent by HD Revanna, there is no other material against the petitioner in the FIR.
He further stated that if the petitioner is granted the protection of anticipatory bail, the next moment he will subject to investigation before the SIT.
On the other hand, strongly opposing the petition, Special Public Prosecutor BN Jagadeesh submitted on behalf of the SIT that in order to know the whereabouts of the kidnapped woman and added that saving her life is first priority.
