The
actress
revealed the emotional toll of her new role, including the struggle to balance her sensitivity as an artist with the demands of her political career.
“I am trying to balance it and also trying to develop a sort of hard skin where I get accustomed to handling it because as an artist, I am only accustomed to channelize it. I have always been in a medium where I see beauty, or as an artist, I can feel it like a tangible object and I can access it. I am the kind of an alchemist who can keep it inside me, and then later I can project it.”
However, when it comes to politics, everything is real. “Here, if I do what I do as an artist then I’ll die. How, how will you last? It is real life. So, I need to shift gear; right now, I am not able to, but this much has come to me that this needs to be a different operation.”
Further, the actress-turned-politician discussed the devastating impact of recent floods and the personal tragedies she witnessed. “People’s children are lost, families are displaced, and homes are destroyed,” she said, highlighting the stark contrast between her previous glamorous life and her current role in addressing real-world issues.
She described her experiences of encountering the pain and hardship of those affected by natural disasters, which has been a significant departure from her former life of managing schedules and creative meetings. “You were living in a bubble,” she reflected, acknowledging the jarring reality check that came with her new responsibilities.
Kangana Ranaut elaborated on the profound impact of politics on her perception of the world. “Politics is literally about serving people,” she explained. “It can get really harsh at times because there is so much pain in the world.”
She admitted that witnessing the intense grief and suffering of those she is trying to help has been overwhelming. She continued, then at times you wonder, do you have that stamina to take it? The grief is so intense and you’re like, I’m not able to handle it anymore.”
“So it gets very harsh,” she concluded.
