The construction of a bridge connecting Kalasavalli-Siganduru in Sagar taluk is in the final stage, and it will be completed by March or April 2025, Shivamogga MP, B.Y. Raghavendra, has said.
Mr. Raghavendra, who was speaking to presspersons recently, said the bridge work was a long-pending demand of the people in the villages on the Sharavathi backwater.
“Union Minister for Highways Nitin Gadkari visited Siganduru to lay the foundation stone for the project in March 2019. The road connecting Sagar and Sigandur via Kalasavalli was upgraded to national highway to mobilise funds for the project. The cable-stayed bridge being constructed at a cost of ₹450 crore will be ready by March or April 2025,” he said.
The bridge would benefit tourists visiting Sigandur, Kollur, Dharmasthala and other places. Following the construction of Linganmakki dam across the Sharavathi, a vast area in Sagar taluk was submerged, affecting road connectivity.
The Department of Ports and Inland Water Transport has been operating ferries for the benefit of villagers and tourists visiting Sigandur.
