Well-known Kannada critic, linguist and writer K.V. Narayana has won the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for 2024 for the book Nudigala Alivu.
The award was announced to Prof. Narayana in the category of “literary criticism”, along with Marathi author Sudhir Rasal, and Telugu writer Penugonda Lakshminarayana. Nudigala Alivu, that was published in 2018 by Harivu Books.
Speaking to The Hindu, Prof. Narayana said that he is happy to be receiving the award, which talks about the death of language. The book debates what disappearance of languages mean to cultures, how it happens and what is the right way to address the issue of languages fading away.
The Sahitya Akademi on Wednesday announced its annual awards in 21 languages for books published between January 2018 to December 2022, including eight books of poetry, three novels, two short stories, three essays, three books of literary criticism, one play and one research work. The Akademi said that awards for works in Bengali, Dogri and Urdu will be declared at a later stage. All the books were selected on the basis of recommendations made by a jury of three members in the languages.
