Team India squad for the Champions Trophy is yet to be announced, and is expected to be out on Jan 18 and 19. Initially, the deadline was Jan 12 for all the teams, to submit their provisional squads. But then, it seems that the BCCI asked for an extension to come up with their squad, and now even hosts Pakistan are yet to come up with their members.
Mystery Continues Over Jasprit Bumrah’s Fitness
It is believed, Jasprit Bumrah‘s injury concern is the reason that the BCCI has not come up with the squad. During the last IND vs AUS Test in Sydney, the ace Indian bowler had suffered back spasms, and no real update on his fitness has come out till now. Former India opener Navjot Singh Sidhu weighted on the entire situation, and said that Bumrah holds the key for the tournament.
“25 years of ICC history — India’s Champions Trophy squad announcement delayed for the first time ever. The January 12 deadline passed, the selectors & teammates wait with bated breath, 1.5 billion hearts pray and hope for the best, all eyes on Jasprit Bumrah. His name alone defines Indian cricket’s zenith, his brilliance commands global reverence,” Sidhu wrote on his X account.

“Yet, the mystery of his injury looms large . This isn’t just a delay; it’s the weight of a nation’s hope riding on the shoulders of a legend. The cricketing world stands still, waiting for Bumrah’s triumphant return.” Meanwhile, earlier a report in Sports Tak suggested that Jasprit Bumrah will miss the entire group stages in the Champions Trophy.
India will play all their matches in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament will be hosted in Pakistan. If India do manage to make it to the knockout matches, they will continue play their matches in the UAE, and vice versa. The tournament will start on Feb 19 and will end on March 9.
