While the other Indian seamers have picked up 19 Australian wickets so far by the end of the first innings in the third Test in Brisbane, ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah alone has picked up 18 wickets in the series. As the numbers suggest once Bumrah is done with his spells there is a realse of pressure on the Australian batters letting them score freely.
At Gabba it was more prominent as Bumrah picked up Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney with the new ball and the 31-year-old himself had to come back with the second new ball to pick up Steven Smith, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh, at this point out of the six wickets that were taken Bumrah himself picked five and Nitish Reddy scalped Marnus Labuschange with a wide half-volley.
“We don’t as a team point fingers at each other. That you should be doing this, that, etc. We are going through a transition as a bowling unit. I am trying to help them. They will get better. This is the journey to get there,” Bumrah said at the end of Day 3. “We have 11 players. I don’t see it as I have to do everything. As I said new team, this is the journey. Everyone has to go through it. Learn about your own game and improve. This is a journey.”
The likes of Harshit Rana who made his debut at Perth did impress with his brisk pace and attitude however, when Travis Head went after him in the second Test in Adelaide the youngster showed his lack of experience. The team management went with Akash Deep for this Test who also playing only his sixth Test. Though he did beat the outside edge a few times he only managed to pick one wicket in his first innings spell.
Mohammed Siraj who is the next most experienced fast bowler in the squad after Bumrah too has blown hot and cold in this series. “We have conversations. He bowled well before in this game he had a niggle and kept on bowling. Fighter attitude that and rest of the team love about it. Some days you bowl well and wickets come and sometimes it doesn’t. I have told him that before. He is in a very good space and great attitude,” Bumrah said.
