Jammu and Kashmir assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution expressing concern over removal of special status and constitutional guarantees granted to the erstwhile state, urging the Centre to initiate a dialogue with elected representatives of J&K for their restoration.
The resolution was passed through voice vote and show of hands amid vociferous opposition by BJP as its members jumped into the well of the assembly raising slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Pakistani agenda nahin chalega’. BJP accused the ruling National Conference of playing mischief with the emotions and aspirations of people of J&K since 1947.
The House was adjourned for the day, as BJP continued its protest and accused Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather of partisanship in favour of NC. The Speaker, in turn, asked BJP to bring a ‘no-confidence motion’ against him, if they were dissatisfied.
