Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali claims that Ishan Kishan has no chances of making his India comeback despite playing red-ball cricket
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali reckons there are zero chances of Ishan Kishan making his comeback to Team India. The southpaw, who has been out of the favour of selectors, commenced his comeback journey with the Buchi Babu Invitation tournament. Despite showing a promising start with a century, Kishan faces an uphill task in finding his way back to the national team.
No India comeback for Ishan Kishan?
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali claimed that there was no way Ishan Kishan was going to be picked for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He went on to claim that his comeback wasn’t possible until after the Champions Trophy in 2025 and asked him to focus on the IPL instead.
“Ishan Kishan needs to focus on the IPL now because he doesn’t have a chance of returning to the Indian team till the Australia series. In fact, there’s no chance till the Champions Trophy. Let’s see what happens after that,” Basit Ali said
Kishan is expected to play the upcoming Ranji Trophy season as well, marking his full-fledged return to first-class cricket. He last played his first-class game in 2022 following which he stayed away from Ranji Trophy in 2023.
In 2024, he refused to participate in domestic cricket, leading to a snub from the BCCI Central Contract list and the Indian team across formats.
Earlier, reports stated that the selectors wanted Ishan Kishan to resume playing the red-ball format in domestic cricket in order to consider him as a contender for a spot in the Indian team.
