Faf du Plessis was not retained by RCB on IPL 2025 Retention Deadline day
Faf du Plessis now has a new home in the Indian Premier League. After leading the Royal Challengers Bengaluru side for 3 seasons, he now has a new home. Delhi Capitals roped in the Proteas legend for a base price of 2 crores which is a bargain rate for the star. Here we take a look at why he would be the perfect captain for DC rather than the co-captaincy of KL Rahul and Axar Patel.
Leadership Experience
Faf du Plessis has a plethora of experience when it comes to leading the side. He has previously captained South Africa and has been a key figure in the success of Chennai Super Kings. While KL Rahul has captained LSG, du Plessis has far greater experience in leading an IPL side.
Both KL Rahul and du Plessis haven’t been able to lift titles as captains. But Faf takes the upper hand when compared to both and also Axar Patel who is now a rookie captain.
Performance Under Pressure
Time and again Faf du Plessis has performed under pressure. He has strategically shown prowess by implementing tactical changes in the game. KL Rahul is not a part of India in the shortest format of the game, Axar is more of a bowling all-rounder and his performances in IPL over the last seasons haven’t been top-notch.
Unfazzled under pressure, Faf holds the ship firmly. KL on the other hand had a massive fallout with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka after a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad last season.
Cohesion and Team Dynamics
Faf has a special bond with the players. Being a senior figure he serves as a mentor for the younger players. By providing the correct pathway to the younger generation, Faf is a vital cog for the players.
On the other hand, Faf is a destructive opener which KL Rahul isn’t. While KL is a fine batter his only flaw is his low strike rate. This thing is very easily negated with Faf who even after 40 years of age continues to be a fiery opener for his side. This plays a vital role in extending the team cohesion and dynamics.
