Indian athletics season started with the recently concluded National Games at Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Multiple meet records were broken in the event, and 13 athletes achieved the qualification mark for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships scheduled for May later this year in South Korea.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will later select the squad based on athletes breaching the qualification mark. Big names such as Jyothi Yarraji, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, and Ankita Dhyani achieved the qualification marks.
List of Indian athletes who achieve Asian Championships qualification mark at National Games:
Jyothi Yarraji: Ace Indian hurdler Jyothi won both the 200m and 110m hurdles titles at the National Games.
She breached the qualification marks in both events, clocking 13.10s in the 110m hurdles and 23.35s in the 200m. The qualification mark for the 110m hurdles is 13.26s and 23.39s for 200m.
Sachin Yadav: The new javelin sensation on the block, Sachin threw 84.39m to record his personal best and win the gold medal in a tight field.
Sachin breached the qualification mark of 75.36m for the Asian Championships and went close to the World Championships mark of 85.50m.
Along with Sachin, Rohit Yadav (80.47m), Shivpal Singh (76.56m), Vikash Sharma (79.33m), and Shivam Lohakare (76.45m) also qualified for the event.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor: Asian Games gold medalist shot putter Tajinderpal didn’t look at his best but won the gold medal with much ease.
He threw 19.74m to win the gold medal and breach the qualification mark of 19.10m.
Along with Toor, Samardeep Singh Gill threw 19.38m to breach the mark.
Men’s 20km racewalk: Six racewalkers breached the qualification mark of 1:24.00 set for the event.

Suraj Panwar (1:21.34), Servin Sebastian (1:21.23), Paramjeet Singh Bisht (1:22.02), Amanjot Singh (1:21.42), Ram Baboo (1:22.26), and Mukesh (1:22.52) were athletes who breached the mark.
Women’s 800m: KM Chanda (2:00.82s), Twinkle Chaudhary (2:03.46s), and Amandeep Kaur (2:04.76s) breached the qualification mark of 2:05.00s in the women’s 800m.
Women’s 5000m: Local girl Ankita Dhyani (15:59.12s), along with seasoned runner Sanjivani Jadhav (15:59.12s), breached the qualification mark of 16:03.00s in the women’s 5000m.
Aishwarya Mishra (women’s 400m), Pooja (Women’s High Jump), Sawan Barwal (Men’s 5000m and 10000m), Agasara Nandini (Heptathlon), and Kiran Matra (Men’s 10000m) were the other athletes to breach the mark in their respective events.

The AFI will select the final squad based on the performance of the athletes in the upcoming competitions.
