Mominul Haque then combined with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto to add 51 runs for the third wicket before India’s player of the match from the Chennai Test removed Shanto and claimed his seventh scalp of the series so far. India lead the two-match series 1-0 after a comprehensive win last week.

Hailing from Sasaram, a city in the Rohtas district in Bihar, the cricket stadium that Akash Deep knew was Green Park, some distance away in the Uttar Pradesh. Akash used to think, “Idhar sab kuch hara bhara hoga (It must be green everywhere).” But little did he know that the pitches here once used to be as flat as the Grand Trunk Road, which were built by Sher Shah Suri, an Afghan warlord from Sasaram, before it started producing out low turners.
