No international or domestic matches have been played at the New York Stadium, but where the drop-in pitches came from could shed some light on the nature of the surface.

IND vs BAN Pitch Report: We are heading into uncharted territory. The India cricket team is set to play their only T20 World Cup match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. So, what does one expect from a ground that has makeshift stands and drop-in pitches? Expect pace-friendly conditions.

Those who were paying close attention would know that the drop-in pitches in New York came from Adelaide Oval, Australia. As one would assume, the pitches down under help tall and fast bowlers due to the extra pace and bounce they provide. But it’s not just fast bowlers who’ll benefit.

Traditionally, Australian pitches help batters as well. The average first-inning score at Adelaide Oval is 170, but the sole T20I match played there saw a whopping 448 runs scored. So, it’s a wicket that’ll most likely aid fast bowlers and batters.

“The pitches will have pace and bounce, and the ball should come on to the bat, something that the players prefer. The idea is to produce good pitches that will stay good throughout the tournament and the players will enjoy playing on,” Adelaide Oval head curation Hough said two weeks ago.
