in Chennai, who had been hiding her pregnancy and trying to abort the fetus even though it was too late, tried to
self-deliver
the
baby
in her hostel’s
washroom
, but ended up chopping of the baby’s two legs, and flushed one limb down the toilet, reports Selvaraj A.
W Vinisha (24) claimed the baby was stillborn, but there was an injury on its neck caused by a sharp object.
When her colleagues entered the room on hearing cries, they found the mutilated infant wrapped in a piece of cloth.
Police filed a case against the nurse under IPC sections 315 (intent to prevent a child from being born alive or to cause it to die after birth) and 201 (concealing evidence). “We could not retrieve the leg that was flushed. The child’s body was kept at a govt hospital for autopsy. We will add murder charge after receiving the doctors’ report,” said a policeman.
