India vs Kuwait: India Football Team head coach Igor Stimac announces 27-member squad to face Kuwait in Sunil Chhetri’s last game
India Football Team head coach Igor Stimac has announced a 27-member squad that will take part in the India vs Kuwait clash. The Blue Tigers will face Kuwait at home at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on 6th June. It also happens to be the farewell match of skipper Sunil Chhetri who is set to hang up his boots after 19 years.
The Blue Tigers have been conducting a preparatory camp in Bhubaneswar. From a squad of 32 members, 5 players have been left out and the remaining 27 players will travel to Kolkata. After the match against Kuwait, the Men in Blue will travel to Qatar to finish the last match of the Round 2 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

Sunil Chhetri’s Farewell Game
A packed crowd is set to be expected at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan. Thousands are set to witness Sunil Chhetri playing for the last time for his country. India is currently placed second in the Round 2 of Qualifiers. The Top 2 teams from the groups progresses to Round 3, as a result, the Blue Tigers will be desperate for a win.
The likes of Phurba Lachenpa, Parthib Gogoi, Imran Khan, Muhammad Hammad and Jithin MS have been left out from the squad.
“All of them were very professional and hard-working. The competition is really strong amongst them, especially in the positions of Jithin and Parthib. Parthib and Hammad suffered minor injuries a few days back and will need 7-14 days of rest,” Igor Stimac said.
