“If I were Rohit Sharma, I would be eager to reach Perth” – Ganguly on Indian captain’s plan for BGT

Rohit welcomed his second child on November 15, and as of now, it’s uncertain whether he’ll travel to Perth or not.

Rohit Sharma has to make a tough decision. He has to choose between being a good father, a supportive husband, and staying back with his family after the birth of his second child or joining the team he’s the captain of in Australia after becoming the first-ever Indian skipper to lose a Test series 0-3 at home. Family or the sport he loves, and that’s given him all, what should and will Rohit Sharma choose?

Should Rohit Sharma join Team India in Perth?

Most reasonable people would be fine with any decision he makes. Former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly, also happens to be one of those people. He’s absolutely happy with whatever step Rohit takes but says that had he been in the same boat as the current Indian Test captain, he’d travel to Perth for the 1st India vs Australia Test.

It’s very important to get off to a good start. It puts you in a great position in the series. I’m not sure about how Rohit is placed with his personal life. But had I been in his place, I would be eager to reach Perth and be a part of the Test if things were under control at home,” Ganguly told the Times of India.

Enough experience without Rohit Sharma

Ganguly also went on to say that even if Rohit isn’t available, experience shouldn’t be an issue for Team India. They already have batters who’d found success in Australia in Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, along with bowlers and all-rounders Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja.

“Having said that, there are a plenty of senior batters like Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant who can take the responsibility and set the tone. Body language on the field has to be very positive but that shouldn’t be a distraction, especially in hostile conditions. Execution is the key,” Ganguly added.
