Heeramandi
: The Diamond Bazaar’, an interesting new detail has come to light about the cast. At a Q&A session held ahead of the Los Angeles premiere, Bhansali gave Lilly Singh, insights into the origins of the series that marks his debut in the digital space.
Reflecting on the evolution of ‘Heeramandi’, Bhansali unveiled its origins as a film concept, stating, “The script for Heeramandi was charming, vast, and epic.
The story was too long for a film, and I had the concept 18 years ago, but there were no OTT platforms then.”
He emphasized the significance of the OTT platform in realizing the project’s full potential, enabling the exploration and development of each character over time.
Interestingly, Bhansali disclosed that the series was initially conceived as a film, with plans to feature Pakistani actors
Mahira Khan
and
Fawad Khan
, alongside Imran Abbas. However, circumstances led to a change in direction, eventually culminating with the current ensemble cast.
Expressing contentment with his cast, Bhansali praised their talent and dedication, noting their availability for the extensive shooting schedule that spanned nearly a year. “They had the time to give to the show because if you had been busy, you wouldn’t be able to give those 350 days that I shot for,” he remarked.
Set against the backdrop of an era characterized by opulence and intrigue, the series delves into the intertwined destinies of two rival courtesans as they embark on a relentless quest for vengeance.
