The candidates include former Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain’s husband Rajiv Jain, who has been fielded from Sonipat for a by-election to the Mayor’s post.
The election to 33 Municipal bodies, including eight Municipal corporations, are slated for March 2. Besides four Municipal Councils and 21 Municipal committees, the By-elections to the Mayor’s post for Ambala and Sonipat Municipal Corporations, and three presidents and three members to municipal committees and councils will also be held simultaneously.
The party has fielded its Mahila Morch executive member Rajrani Malhotra as Mayor candidate for Gurugram Municipal Corporation with the seat being reserved for an OBC-A category woman. The State Scheduled Caste Morcha executive member Suman Bahmani has been fielded for Yamuna Nagar Mayor’s post, which is reserved for a Scheduled Caste woman. Haryana Child Welfare Board chairman Praveen Joshi is the party’s Mayor candidate for Faridabad. Ramavatar Valmiki, national vice-president, SC Morcha, is the party’s Mayor candidate for Rohtak Municipal Corporation, which could see a tough fight between the Congress and the BJP.
The Congress, too, has announced to contest the elections to Municipal corporations and president elections to the Municipal councils and committees this time.
However, both national parties will not contest the elections to Municipal committee wards.
