Hardik Pandya’s leadership and all-round ability are crucial for India’s T20 World Cup aspirations.
The Indian cricket team’s quest for their second T20 World Cup title began in earnest as the first contingent of players departed for the USA on Saturday. Captain Rohit Sharma, along with key players like Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Suryakumar Yadav, were among those seen at the Mumbai airport, ready to embark on their journey.
Conspicuous absence of Hardik Pandya
However, a notable absentee from the first group was star all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Earlier reports suggested Pandya would be part of this initial batch, especially considering his Mumbai Indians’ exit from the IPL playoffs.
While three of his MI teammates (Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah) were present, Pandya’s absence sparked questions and speculation.
Season of challenges for Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya’s recent months have been marked by turmoil. After a disappointing IPL season where his team, Mumbai Indians, finished last under his captaincy, rumours have swirled about trouble in his personal life.
Reports hint at a possible separation from his wife, Natasa Stankovic, though neither party has confirmed these claims.
Hardik Pandya to fly from London?
While the official reason for Pandya’s absence remains unclear, reports suggest he’s currently in London for a brief training stint. It’s expected that he will link up with the team directly from there before the tournament kicks off on June 1st.
