Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday questioned the government‘s rejection of the Supreme Court‘s recent suggestion to exclude the “creamy layer” among Dalits from the quota and asked why the Centre didn’t bring a bill, if it was serious, in the just concluded Parliament session to nullify the apex court order.
He alleged that the ruling BJP‘s real intention was to end reservation and said the Congress would form a consultative committee of various stakeholders to firm up its position and take up the issue.
“I read that the PM said we (government) will not touch this. To ensure that creamy layer (concept for Scheduled Castes or SCs) will not be implemented, they should have brought (a legislation) in Parliament and nullified the Supreme Court judgement. This government prepares bills in a few hours and now it has been about 15 days since the judgement,” Kharge said in a statement.
