Over the years, the Indian Premier League auctions have changed many a life overnight, thanks to the astounding amount of money franchises have paid players in the IPL auction.

It’s not just Indian players who have hit pay dirt overnight. Australia’s Glenn Maxwell recently revealed his feelings after realising the mind-boggling amount he had been paid in the IPL auction.

Maxwell will play in the upcoming IPL for Punjab Kings, who picked him up for Rs 4.2 crore on Sunday in the IPL 2025 auction.

But back in the day, the Mumbai Indians had forked out $1 million (Rs 5.3 crore) in the 2013 auction to secure the services of Maxwell.

“I remember being in England in 2013. I went to the ATM to get some money out and the balance came up on the screen and I genuinely panicked, because I’d never seen that amount of money before. It was a six figures amount. I was like… I absolutely shit myself. It’s not my account. I was like, I don’t know what’s happened here. I called back home and I was like, I don’t know what to do. What do I do with this money? And then I got home and met a financial advisor. We were pretty close and he helped me out finding someone in that space and basically talked about what I wanted to do with my money. I think that was the big transition was being, I suppose, at a point where I was able to put my money in places where I had no idea what I was doing with it. I never imagined I’d have that. I think when you think about money growing up, you’re like, I’ll just buy a house with a bunch of cash and hopefully everything’s sorted and you get a car and everything else would just fall in place,” Maxwell had revealed on the Howie Games podcast last last year.
