World Water Day 2025
, the State Clean Ganga Mission-Uttar Pradesh and the District Ganga Committee, Lucknow, organised a day-long program to promote water conservation and cleanliness. The event, held in two sessions—morning and evening—aimed to raise awareness about protecting water resources and maintaining the purity of the Gomti River.
The morning session at Mankameshwar Ghat saw participation from officials, volunteers, NGOs, and local residents. Additional project director Prabhas Kumar, the chief guest, spoke about the importance of sustainable water use and the challenges of pollution. Following this, a cleanliness drive was conducted by Namostute Maa Gomti, Gomti Task Force, volunteers, and local citizens. The ghat and nearby areas were thoroughly cleaned, plastic waste was collected and disposed of, and participants pledged to keep the river clean.
A special oath-taking ceremony was also organised, where attendees committed to responsible water use and cleanliness. The session concluded with a vote of thanks and a mass tree plantation drive.

In the evening, a Gomti Aarti was held under the guidance of Mahant Divya Giri. Cultural performances highlighted the significance of water conservation and the river’s historical and cultural importance. The event featured a presentation of Ganesh Vandana, a storytelling session titled Gomti Katha by Jaldoot Nand Kishore Verma, and Jal Ki Kahani, Nadiyon Ki Jubani, which explored the role of rivers in Indian tradition.

A ‘Reuse and revive’ workshop provided practical insights into water recycling, management, and sustainable development. Participants discussed conservation techniques and shared their experiences.
The evening also included a Jal Kalash Samaroh, symbolising the importance of water in Indian traditions. A dance drama, Bhavishya-Shakti, depicted the effects of water pollution and possible solutions. Winners of the Gomti Samman and a painting competition were recognised for their contributions to spreading awareness about water conservation.

DFO Lucknow Sitashu Pandey, a special guest at the event, praised the efforts made towards water conservation and emphasized the role of society in keeping rivers clean.
The program concluded with Gomti Aarti, where participants, including devotees and dignitaries, took a pledge to protect and maintain the cleanliness of the river. The event saw participation from officials such as Sonalika Singh (Unit head, State Clean Ganga Mission), Shaivya Singh, Pramila Singh (District project officer, District Ganga Committee), Shivang Verma (Gomti Task Force), and other social workers and citizens.
The event successfully engaged different sections of society in promoting water conservation and cleanliness, further strengthening efforts to protect the Gomti River.
