The Food Safety department of Telangana conducted a State-wide inspection of government hospital canteens and kitchens on Monday ensuring compliance with hygiene and food safety regulations. The inspections, carried out by Food Safety Officers, covered 19 hospitals, including major healthcare facilities such as MNJ Cancer Hospital, Niloufer Hospital, Government Chest Hospital, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and MGM Hospital in Warangal.
As part of the initiative, food handlers and kitchen staff were educated on best practices for handling raw materials, storage and food preparation. The department also collected food samples for laboratory testing and vendors found violating hygiene standards were issued notices. Further action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, said a release from the department.
The inspections are being carried out on a regular basis and copy of the reports are being shared to hospital superintendents for necessary monitoring and action, said a senior official from the department.
