Madras, Feb. 13: All the higher secondary and Central schools in the country will switch over in June 1975 to the new pattern of education — a 10-year general schooling followed by a two-year higher secondary/pre-degree course and a three-year degree course.

These schools now provide a 11-year education at the end of which students could straightaway join the degree course (without studying the pre-university course).

The new 10-year general school course will consist of languages, mathematics, social science, physical science and physical and health education.

A special feature of the scheme is the plan to provide work experience to students in the 9th and 10th classes.

The Central Secondary Education Board has drawn up detailed syllabus for work experience in 42 different subjects/crafts from which the students could choose.
