The Pakistan President, Gen Zia-ul-Haq, on Tuesday said he did not see the possibility of resumption of Indo-Pakistan dialogue next month. He also said that amendments to the 1973 constitution would be announced before or during the national elections to be held on February 25 and 28. Zia claimed the “entire” nation had given him a mandate in the December 19 referendum to amend the constitution.
Probe Ruled Out
Ruling out an inquiry into the riots in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi’s assassination as it would be detrimental to the interests of the Sikhs, the Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, on Tuesday made a concerted appeal not only to the Akalis, but the entire Sikh community, to help in solving the Punjab problem.
Blankets Blocked

Winter clothing, mainly blankets, donated by Indians abroad and airlifted for immediate distribution to the distressed November riot victims, still await customs clearance. The clothing, even if released “soon” will have little use for the refugees now that summer is almost here.
