A string of victories at home against Brentford, Liverpool, and Nottingham Forest last month guaranteed Everton’s place in the Premier League. They play their final home game of the season at Goodison Park against Sheffield United on Saturday.

Everton has given up on its appeal against a two-point deduction for financial rule violations in the Premier League. After an independent commission determined that the Toffees had violated the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) by 16.6 million British pounds during the three-year period leading up to 2022–2023—the team was docked two points.

The appeal was scheduled for next week, and the decision was expected to be made before their season-ending match against Arsenal on May 19. In February, the Toffees’ 10-point deduction for PSR violations during the three-year period ending in 2021–2022 was lowered to six points on appeal.

Independent commission reduced points deduction

The independent commission stated that the Premier League’s starting point for any PSR sanction was a five-point deduction in its written reasons for Everton’s most recent deduction. However, it acknowledged that it should be reduced to two points due to the overlap in the years that were assessed in the club’s two cases.

More points deduction on cards?

While there is no deadline for resolving the interest cost issue related to the construction of the team’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, the Merseyside club may be subject to an additional point deduction.
