AUS vs ENG: England qualification scenario to T20 World Cup has changed significantly after their loss to Australia by 36 runs.
Defending T20 World Cup champs England are in massive trouble after they failed to register a win in the 2024 edition. After their first match was washed out vs Scotland, Jos Buttler & Co. succumbed to a big 36-run loss in AUS vs ENG on Saturday, putting their chances of making it to T20 World Cup super 8’s in jeopardy.
England Qualification Scenario After AUS vs ENG
England qualification scenario is not easy to say the least. Not only will they have to win their remaining matches vs Namibia and Oman, but also hope that Scotland lose both their matches. It’s simple, given if England beat both the minnows in their next two matches, and Scotland wins against Oman, and loses vs Australia, both teams will be stuck on 5 points each. That is when the NRR will come into play.

But if Scotland manages to win their next two, they would be on 7 and would sail through. However, let’s assume Australia beat Scotland, Marsh’s men could still spoil England’s party. If AUS beat SCO with only a specific margin only, that would allow the latter to surpass ENG on NRR.
England Can Still Do it
There is hardly any doubt that England is one of the most successful limited-overs team in the current era. They have lifted the T20 World Cup twice, and have also won the 50-over World Cup in 2019. Speaking of which, it wasn’t the easiest of journeys for them, after they had suffered successive defeats against Australia and Sri Lanka.
But from there, they went on to win four successive matches to lift their maiden trophy. Similarly, during the 2022 T20 World Cup triumph, they bounced back from a defeat against Ireland.
