Following Ben Stokes’ injury ahead of ENG vs SL series, the ECB has cited workload management to pull Chris Woakes out of The Hundred
The England cricket team is willing to take no risk at all ahead of the ENG vs SL series after Ben Stokes’ injury. The ECB have decided to pull Chris Woakes out of the tournament. The decision comes after captain Ben Stokes suffered a hamstring injury while playing for the Northern Superchargers on Monday.
England made Woakes unavailable for the remainder of the competition following Stokes’ injury. However, the board denied the move being linked to the England skipper’s status. It is pertinent to point out that Woakes will play the role of an all-rounder if Stokes fails to recover in time for the Sri Lanka Testts.
Ben Stokes suffered the injury after facing just two deliveries in the match and was forced to be helped off the field after retiring hurt. The England skipper was later on spotted in crutches and watching the game from the sidelines. His teammate Harry Brook confirmed that Stokes was indeed injured and that he would have to undergo scans the following day.
Meanwhile, Stokes was the only bowler from the England cricket team who participated in The Hundred. Gus Atkinson has not played a single game despite being a part of the Oval Invincibles. Mark Wood and Shoaib Bashir are not a part of the league.
