NEW DELHI: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s speech in Kuwait, accusing him of spreading hatred between Hindus and minorities in India for political gain stating that, “It is easy to release the genie of hatred, but challenging to rein it back in.”
Sharing a post on X, Digvijaya Singh said that while PM Modi’s international messages promote “world brotherhood,” his domestic rhetoric allegedly fuels division through “
Hindutva
.”
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, I heard your speech in Kuwait. I appreciate it. I have been your biggest critic since the
Godhra incident
. It has become very difficult to control the hatred that you have spread between Hindus and minorities in this country. It is easy to take out the “genie of hatred” from the bottle but not to put it back in the bottle,” the Congress leader posted on X.
“Now you and RSS giving the message of making India a “world brother” to make it a “world leader”. Your foreign minister is also doing the same thing now. Can you not give this speech in India instead of abroad? Here your speech spews the “poison of hatred”. Going abroad, especially in Islamic countries, you advocate “world brotherhood” but in India you advocate “Hindutva”. Savarkar himself has said that “Hindutva” has nothing to do with “Hinduism or Sanatan Dharma,” he added.
The Congress leader further made a direct appeal to PM Modi, requesting him to promote unity and harmony across India and remarked, “I have only one request for you. Spread the message of ‘Leave hatred, unite India’ of Rahul Gandhi to the people and spread the message of ‘Vasudev Kutumbakam’ of Sanatan Dharma to the people.”
PM Modi embarked on a two-day state visit to Kuwait, marking the first such visit by an Indian prime minister in 43 years. During his address to the Indian community in Kuwait on February 15, PM Modi expressed his vision about India’s future role as a global development centre and worldwide economic powerhouse.
Earlier on Saturday, speaking at the “Hala Modi” community gathering at Kuwait’s Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex, PM Modi showcased India’s advancements in technology, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.
“Today, India is the fifth-largest economy in the world. We lead the world in fintech and have the third-largest startup ecosystem globally. India is also the second-largest mobile manufacturing country in the world. The India of the future will be the hub of the development of the world… it will be the growth engine of the world,” the prime minister said.
He also expressed his deep appreciation for Kuwait, stating “India was one of the first countries in the world to recognise Kuwait after its independence. So, visiting a country, a society with which I have so many memories… is very memorable for me. I am very grateful to the people of Kuwait and the Government here.”
During his visit, PM Modi also toured a labour camp in Kuwait housing around 1,500 Indian workers and participated in the Gulf Cup football opening ceremony. PM Modi is set to meet the Emir, the Crown Prince, and the Prime Minister of Kuwait, today.
