NEW DELHI: Indian Meterological Department on Sunday predicted
wet spell
accompanied with
thunderstorms
and gusty winds along the eastern and southern peninsula till May 9.
The weather department in a press release also predicted the continuation of heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds over northeastern parts of the country till May 7.
Warning about cyclonic circulation lying over northeast Assam and Bihar, the weather department said that “strong southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal to Northeast India are very likely to prevail at lower tropospheric levels till May 7, 2024.”
Cyclonic predictions over the southern part of India, according to
IMD
, would cause rains and thunderstorms in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana during next 5 days; over north & south interior Karnataka on May 7 and 8; over Lakshadweep on May 9, 2024.
The excessive heat that has gripped huge parts of eastern and peninsular India for over a fortnight will gradually recede as light showers and thunderstorms in the next week would lower temperatures, as per the India Meteorological Department forecast on Sunday.
