Eager to improve performance, PCB calls 25 former players to discuss ways to revamp domestic cricket

On Monday, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi and other board members will meet with the former cricketers to gather their opinions and recommendations.

Pakistan’s dismal performance in the T20 World Cup which saw them being knocked out in group stage has left PCB in a state of worry. The board is determined to find answers and rectify their mistakes to help Pakistan cricket bounce back.

PCB seeks former cricketers’ advice

To explore ways to enhance the domestic cricket system, the PCB has extended invitations to 25 former international cricket players to attend a meeting. On Monday, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi and other board members will meet with the former mainstays to gather their opinions and recommendations.

The discussion will focus on how to close the quality gap between Pakistan’s domestic cricket leagues and international cricket. A thorough plan submitted by another former player outlining the issues with the nation’s current cricket system will also be discussed at the meeting.

Similar exercise carried on in past too

But the PCB has conducted similar exercises before, as the domestic tournament format has been problematic since 2018. Following Imran Khan’s election as prime minister, the First-Class competition was reduced to just six teams. Last year, the board led by Zaka Ashraf reinstated the previous First-Class format, which featured departmental teams.
