Ashish Vidyarthi
, who has done over 300 films in different languages and is a popular onscreen villain, ventured into
stand-up comedy
recently. The Bichhoo, Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai and Badal actor, who is also a
motivational speaker
, shares, “I feel each one of us can do more things. People say that one day, I will become calmer, maybe when I am older. But till then, I will try and do interesting things.” He adds, “I own whatever I do.
I love this line, ‘Kar ke pachhtao’. You don’t always have to get it right.”
‘Through stand-up comedy, I let people laugh at themselves’
Ashish, who loves sharing anecdotes from his personal experiences while doing stand-up comedy, says, “So much about my life is known anyway and people are having a laugh at it.” Ashish shares, “So, I don’t mind laughing at myself while doing stand-up comedy. We can allow ourselves to be and express ourselves. People can laugh at jokes about my age, weight, or the scar on my skin; it’s fine. With Sit Down Ashish, I am letting people laugh at themselves and I want to say that it’s absolutely fine. That is my idea of stand-up comedy. Any experience that you have gone through, you can make the most of it. I also love to take suggestions from people.”
‘I love telling stories and want people to have hope’
The actor, who is also into
lifestyle vlogging
and
food vlogging
, says, “I love to connect with people and tell stories. I want them to have hope. As a motivational speaker, I want people to feel cheerful and great about themselves.”
‘I’ve been trying my best to stay relevant’
So, is this his way of staying connected to the younger generation? He shares, “Yeah, but it’s not so planned, you know? For example, people keep saying that social media belongs to a particular generation. But I love making the best use of technology and love to communicate via social media. Also, I have been trying my best to stay relevant.” He adds, “We love ourselves and want to be important in life. The best way to ensure that is to be valuable to others.”
‘I am setting off on an interesting journey in June’
Called Raining Smiles, in this journey, I am going to capture the onset of monsoon at Kanyakumari. I’ll be there to capture the moment when the rains hit the Indian subcontinent. In every state, we will cover five towns. I will meet people and eat with them. Every evening, I will visit a café or someone’s house, and perform a stand-up comedy act for the audience.
