BJP‘s New Delhi candidate, Bansuri Swaraj, filed her nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections amidst a jubilant atmosphere. Party workers, carrying flags adorned with images of Lord Ram and PM Modi, celebrated the occasion by dancing to the beat of dhols and chanting victory slogans. Accompanied by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Swaraj submitted her nomination at the office of the district magistrate-cum-returning officer.
Locals who gathered to express their support for the BJP candidate voiced optimism that Bansuri Swaraj would carry forward the legacy of her late mother, former Delhi chief minister Sushma Swaraj. “We believe Bansuri Swaraj will be a true representative of her mother and carry forward her legacy,” said Ashok Rana, a local supporter, to PTI.
“If party leaders have chosen her for New Delhi, we will vote for her and, hopefully, she will serve the country as her mother did,” Rana added.
Dressed in saffron attire, party workers and supporters waved flags featuring images of Lord Ram and Modi as Bansuri Swaraj made her way to file her nomination papers. The streets echoed with slogans of “Phir ek bar Modi sarkar” and “Hamara neta kaise ho, Bansuri jaisa ho” as her roadshow passed, with both men and women participating in equal numbers.
Another attendee, Sushil Jolly, expressed his support for Bansuri Swaraj, stating, “I am here for Modi. As his team has decided her (Bansuri Swaraj) name, we will support her.” Jolly, 66, also urged young people to actively participate in the elections, emphasizing their critical role in shaping the country’s future.
Placards featuring images of Modi and Bansuri Swaraj were prominently displayed, and some attendees wore t-shirts emblazoned with “Team Bansuri”. The roadshow, which commenced from Tughlak Lane, drew a large number of party workers, leading to traffic disruptions in the area.
As Bansuri Swaraj proceeded inside the returning officer’s office to file her nomination papers, party workers continued to dance to the beat of dhols, eagerly awaiting her return. Bansuri Swaraj is one of two women candidates fielded by the BJP in Delhi and is also the saffron party’s youngest candidate in the national capital.
