Delhi L-G appoints 1,669 Home Guards

Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena on Wednesday distributed offer letters to 1,669 applicants who were selected as Home Guard (HG) following the due recruitment process, Raj Niwas officials said.

Of these, 19% had served as Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs), while 181 were women candidates.

Mr. Saxena, in January this year, cleared enrollment of 10,285 HG personnel and stated that CDVs would be given preference by way of extra credits in the selection.

This was to provide alternate employment opportunities to the CDVs, who had been terminated as Bus Marshals in 2023.

However, some candidates approached the court, and as a result, the appointment of 7,939 posts of HGs was kept vacant as the matter became sub-judice.

Recently, Mr. Saxena directed the officials to immediately appoint HGs who have qualified for their Physical Measurement and Efficiency Test and written test.

Addressing the newly recruited HGs, Mr. Saxena said in the near future, an additional 15,000 HGs will be recruited, taking the total strength to 25,000.
