Kalki 2898 AD
, which was selected under the Indian Panorama category. The duo shared intriguing updates about the franchise while addressing several questions from the press.
When asked about the box office success of Kalki, Priyanka Dutt quipped, “Enough to make a good second part.”
On the topic of Deepika Padukone’s character and her connection to motherhood in the narrative, Swapna Dutt revealed, “She will still be a mother for some part of the second film.”
Nag Ashwin’s absence from gala events also sparked curiosity. Priyanka clarified, “He is busy making cinema.”
The sisters mentioned that about 30% of
Kalki 2
is already complete, but when asked if Nag Ashwin plans to direct another film before the sequel, they coyly responded, “Ask Nag Ashwin.”

Meanwhile, the makers recently announced that Kalki 2898 AD will release in Japan on January 3, 2025, aligning with Shogatsu, the Japanese New Year. The film will be distributed by Twin in Japan.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Kasi in 2898 AD, the story revolves around a mission to save Kalki, the unborn child of a lab subject, SUM-80 (played by Deepika Padukone).
Initially titled Project K, the film faced delays before its release on June 27, 2024. It grossed over Rs 1,200 crore worldwide and was lauded for its visual effects, compelling performances, and the innovative melding of mythology and sci-fi elements.
