The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) recognized Deepika’s performance by re-inducting her into the Target Olympic Podium Scheme
Former world no. 1 recurve archer Deepika Kumari made a remarkable comeback, clinching a silver medal at the Archery World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai and reclaiming her position as India’s top-ranked recurve archer. This achievement also catapulted her into the world’s top 40, as she leapt over 100 spots in the global rankings.
The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) recognized Deepika’s performance by re-inducting her into the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) core group of athletes, a significant boost for her Olympic aspirations. This decision came during the MOC’s 133rd meeting, demonstrating the impact of her recent success on the international stage.
Deepika Kumari re-inducted into TOPS
Deepika’s journey back to the spotlight is even more remarkable because she missed the entire season last year after giving birth to her daughter, Vedika, in December 2022. Her return to competitive archery has been nothing short of inspiring, with medals in both domestic and international events.
In addition to Deepika’s re-induction into the TOPS core group, the sports ministry also announced that archer Mrinal Chauhan has been included in the TOPS Development group, while Pravin Jadhav has moved from Development to the Core group. Para-powerlifter Ashok has also joined the TOPS Core group, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to recognizing and supporting talent across a range of sports.
